Build the Water Storage That Suits Your Property
The right water tank can give you far more than somewhere to hold rainwater. It can provide a useful reserve for gardens, household connections, sheds, livestock, machinery, swimming pools and broader rural property needs.
The Tank Factory offers one of the most comprehensive selections of poly and steel tanks available online. The range includes compact tanks for suburban blocks, slimline designs for narrow areas, substantial round tanks for acreage and farms, underground options for space-conscious projects and Kingspan Aquaplate steel tanks in several shapes and finishes.
The Tank Factory is the online sales division of Duraplas Industries. Our Australian family-owned parent company has manufactured tanks in NSW since 1984, allowing customers to purchase Duraplas poly tanks through the manufacturer’s own sales division.
This means you can compare current models, dimensions, colours, fittings and pricing in one place, then have your chosen tank manufactured and scheduled for regional delivery.

A practical tank choice begins with demand. Once you know what the stored water will supply, it becomes easier to compare the capacity and footprint that will deliver the most value.
Gardens, Lawns and Outdoor Water
For garden watering, outdoor taps, car washing and swimming-pool top-up, a compact or mid-sized tank can make productive use of rain falling on the home, garage or shed roof.
Popular options include:
- 3,000 to 5,000-litre tanks for smaller gardens and supplementary outdoor water;
- 5,675 to 10,000-litre round tanks for larger gardens, lawns and pool top-up; and
- slimline tanks from approximately 450 to 5,000 litres for narrower suburban sites.
A well-used tank regularly creates fresh storage capacity for the next rainfall event, helping you collect and use more water across the year.
Household Connections and Everyday Water Use
Rainwater can also support toilets, cold-water laundry connections and outdoor taps when incorporated into a compliant plumbing system.
Toowoomba Regional Council advises that, when internally connected to toilets and a washing machine, a 10,000-litre tank may supply approximately 20–30% of average daily household water needs. A tank of around 22,000 litres may supply approximately 30–40%, based on Toowoomba rainfall records.
This makes the Duraplas 10,000-litre and 22,700-litre round tanks particularly relevant for households seeking a useful reserve and regular rainwater contribution.
Your licensed plumber can design the pump, town-water backup, backflow protection and internal connections to suit the property.
Acreage, Farms and Rural Properties
Larger properties around Highfields, Westbrook, Cambooya, Jondaryan, Oakey, Pittsworth, Warwick and the broader Darling Downs often have greater roof catchment and more varied water demands.
Applications may include:
- household supply;
- large gardens and orchards;
- stock and animal water;
- farm sheds and workshops;
- nurseries and horticulture;
- machinery and outdoor-area washing; and
- maintaining a useful reserve between rainfall events.
Popular large-capacity Duraplas choices include the 10,000-litre, 22,700-litre and 34,000-litre round tanks.
Where a single tank does not provide the desired reserve, several tanks can be connected into a larger coordinated system. Your plumber or hydraulic adviser can specify the balance lines, pipe sizes, overflow arrangement and pump configuration required for the intended demand.
Why the 22,700-Litre Tank Is So Popular
The Duraplas 22,700-litre round poly tank offers a strong balance of substantial capacity and value per litre stored.
It is well suited to:
- larger residential properties;
- acreage and rural homes;
- farm sheds and outbuildings;
- garden and landscaping reserves;
- stock-water systems; and
- multi-tank installations requiring greater combined capacity.
Upright and squat 22,700-litre designs provide a choice between a narrower diameter with greater height and a wider, lower tank profile. This allows the tank footprint to be matched more closely to the available area, inlet height and delivery access.
For sites requiring even more storage, the 34,000-litre Duraplas round tank provides the largest capacity within our standard round poly rainwater tank range.
Toowoomba Rainfall Rewards Useful Storage
The Bureau of Meteorology’s Toowoomba Airport station records mean annual rainfall of approximately 737.2 millimetres.
The annual figure is only part of the story. Toowoomba’s mean rainfall is generally higher through the summer months and lower through parts of winter and early spring. This seasonal pattern makes stored water especially valuable because a tank can retain water collected during wetter periods for use when rainfall becomes less frequent.
As a general guide, 1 millimetre of rainfall falling on 1 square metre of connected roof area represents approximately 1 litre of potential catchment before normal system losses are considered.
Roof Catchment Example
A property with 200 square metres of connected roof area has the following theoretical annual catchment:
200 m² × 737.2 mm = approximately 147,440 litres per year.
This does not mean the property needs a tank capable of holding the entire annual catchment. The most useful capacity balances:
- the roof area feeding the tank;
- seasonal rainfall patterns;
- the intended daily or weekly demand;
- the desired reserve between rainfall events;
- the available installation space; and
- the project budget.
Our rainwater catchment calculator can help you compare roof area, local rainfall and potential collection.
Smart Options for Smaller or More Complex Sites
A large round tank offers excellent value where space permits, but it is only one part of the range.
Slimline Tanks for Urban and Residential Blocks
Duraplas slimline tanks are available in capacities from approximately 450 to 5,000 litres and make productive use of spaces beside homes, garages, sheds and boundaries.
Several combinations of width, height and length are available. A tall upright design may suit a shorter wall area, while a lower and longer tank may fit more comfortably beneath windows, eaves or other property features.
Underground and Underdeck Storage
Duraplas underground tanks are available in 3,000 and 5,000-litre capacities for suitable under-yard and trafficable applications.
Underdeck tanks provide another option for raised homes and structures where the available space can be used efficiently.
These designs can be integrated effectively into new builds, renovations and landscaping projects when excavation, access openings, drainage and plumbing are considered early.
Kingspan Aquaplate Steel Tanks
Our Kingspan Aquaplate steel tank range provides further choice in round, slimline, Modline and square configurations.
Round steel tanks extend to approximately 27,000 litres, while the more compact formats provide flexible options for properties seeking a particular footprint or steel finish.
Kingspan manufactures and delivers the steel range under its own production, freight and warranty arrangements, giving customers another established tank option alongside the Duraplas poly range.
Strong Standard Value with Every Duraplas Rainwater Tank
Duraplas round and slimline rainwater tanks are supplied with useful standard fittings, including:
- an inlet strainer basket;
- a 90 mm overflow fitting with mesh protection;
- a WaterMark-approved 25 mm brass outlet; and
- a 25 mm ball valve.
Alternative outlet sizes and additional fittings are available for selected models and applications.
Round and slimline Duraplas rainwater tanks also include an applicable 20-year manufacturer’s warranty, comprising 10 years repair or replacement followed by 10 years pro-rata, subject to the published warranty conditions.
With a broad range of colour choices and factory-prepared fitting locations, your tank can be configured to suit both the property and the planned plumbing layout.
Planning a Tank in the Toowoomba Region
Toowoomba Regional Council provides detailed guidance for both new-build and retrofit rainwater-tank installations.
For many new detached homes on blocks of 250 square metres or more, the applicable Queensland Development Code provisions include a minimum 5,000-litre tank, connection to a specified roof catchment and plumbing to toilets, the washing machine and an outdoor tap.
Council also advises that:
- outdoor-only use can generally be simpler to arrange;
- internal household connections require the appropriate plumbing process;
- tank overflow must be directed to a suitable approved discharge arrangement;
- the location should allow access for servicing and maintenance; and
- larger, taller, underground or boundary-adjacent installations may involve additional building or siting requirements.
Current information is available through the Toowoomba Regional Council rainwater tank guide.
For Warwick and Southern Downs properties, local installation, water-quality and backflow guidance is available through the Southern Downs Regional Council rainwater tank information.
Scheduled Delivery to Toowoomba, Warwick and the Darling Downs
Duraplas poly tanks are delivered to Toowoomba, Warwick and many surrounding Darling Downs locations through planned regional delivery routes.
This coordinated approach allows orders to move from manufacture into a scheduled delivery program, with the delivery arrangements matched to the tank model, postcode and access available at the property.
We can assist with delivery planning for:
- suburban homes and established residential blocks;
- new housing estates;
- acreage and rural-residential properties;
- farms and agricultural sites;
- sheds, workshops and commercial properties; and
- multi-tank orders requiring larger transport combinations.
Helping Us Plan the Right Delivery Vehicle
The property owner determines the access available on the property. Accurate access details allow our delivery team to plan the most suitable vehicle and practical unloading arrangement.
Useful information includes:
- road, gate and driveway width;
- driveway surface and gradient;
- overhead trees, branches, cables and powerlines;
- turning and reversing space;
- bridges, culverts and cattle grids;
- soft, wet or uneven ground; and
- the preferred unloading area.
Duraplas delivery vehicles generally require approximately 3 metres of clear width and 5 metres of clear height. Where a truck-and-trailer combination is required, the complete vehicle may measure approximately 19 metres overall.
On arrival, the driver will work with the access provided and select the safest practical unloading point for the vehicle, tank and people assisting.
The number of adult, able-bodied assistants required depends on the tank model and is shown on the relevant product page and in our poly water tank delivery guide.
Where movement beyond the practical unloading point requires additional labour or equipment, the property owner can coordinate this with an appropriate local contractor.
