Round steel tanks give the most storage for the money in the steel range, and they come in sizes from 2,000 to 27,000 litres.

Two things stand out in the round range:
- Cost per litre drops as the tank gets bigger. A 2,000 litre tank works out at about 95 cents a litre. A 27,000 litre tank comes in at about 24 cents a litre.
- The 20,000 and 22,900 litre tanks cost the same. Both are $5,875. The 22,900 litre tank holds 2,900 litres more for 150mm extra width, so if you have the space, it’s the better buy.

Slimline and Modline steel tanks are rectangular, built to sit against a wall or fence where a round tank won’t fit. They run from 1,000 to 7,000 litres.

Several capacities come in more than one shape, and the shape changes the price. At 5,000 litres, for example, the options range from $2,895 for the Squat and Modline Tall models to $3,650 for the Modline Ultra Slim. In general, the narrower the tank, the more it costs for the same capacity. If you have a little more width to give, a wider or taller model is usually the cheaper way to get the same litres.
Measure your space first: width, length and any height limit under eaves or windows. Then pick the cheapest model that fits.
What’s Included in Steel Water Tank Prices
Each listed price covers the tank and standard fittings. Based on our product pages, that includes:
- Aquaplate steel: food-grade polymer-coated steel, made in Australia by Kingspan Water.
- A base-range Colorbond finish. Painted colours outside the base range cost extra.
- Standard fittings. On our slimline steel tanks, these include a 25mm brass ball valve, a 25mm outlet, a 100mm overflow spout and a 400mm inlet strainer with stainless steel mesh. Check the product page for your tank, as fittings vary by model.
- Kingspan’s warranty. Our product pages list a 20-year corrosion warranty and a 10-year construction warranty. Our steel tank warranty page sets out the terms.

Steel tanks ship from Kingspan Water’s factories at Yatala (QLD), Smithfield (NSW) and Epping (VIC). Delivery is priced per tank, based on the shortest road distance from the nearest factory.

Kingspan currently delivers as far north as Hervey Bay, south to greater Melbourne and west to Dubbo, with other areas on request.
A few delivery points worth knowing before the truck arrives:
- Two staff deliver each tank. They’ll help place it if access is clear, but they can’t lift above waist height or over fences.
- About 15 minutes on site is included. If the crew can’t get the tank to its spot, it’s left at the kerb.
- Clear the path first. Power lines, steep slopes and fences can all stop the tank reaching its final position.
